Currently under development at Ashima Devices, the Forcefield micro-UAV (or "puck") will be a one-man portable, easily hand-launched personal reconnaissance system.

The forcefield concept envisions a tablet PC that will let you explore an interactive 3D model of the target environment shortly after launching the UAV. Your 3D model updates live as conditions change in your target area, including personnel and threat movements. Walk around your target environment - and even the targets themselves.

You won't have to fly it. Preset routes let you concentrate on your mission, since it flies itself. Launch well out of harm's way, yet see everything you need to see.

Your department's best new tool. Inexpensive and easy to use, Forcefield UAV is a lifesaver that doesn't break the budget with capital and training costs.

Scenario 1 - Warehouse Search

Officers arrived on the scene of a commercial burglary and saw a suspect inside a warehouse. The interior of the warehouse is vast. No police dog is available to assist with the search. Prior to sending officers in to search, ForceField is deployed to scan the interior of the warehouse in an attempt to locate the suspects. The 3D model is easy for officers to navigate, allowing them to inspect every nook and cranny from a safe position.

Scenario 2 - Locate a Suspect (urban)

Pursuant to a foot pursuit, officers are searching a neighborhood for a suspect who is believed to be armed, hiding in one of several yard areas. ForceField are fired overhead to locate suspects. With thermal infrared capability, body temperature can also be used for identification. Officers can be deployed to check each visual or heat source candidate suspects in the images in order to determine which one of them (if any) belongs to the fleeing felon.

Scenario 3 - Locate a Suspect (rural)

A suspect was seen leaving the scene of an armed robbery of a convenience store. Witnesses saw the suspect run into a field. Rather than send uniformed officers into harms way without any knowledge of the actual location of the armed suspect, a ForceField with visual and/or thermal imaging is deployed overhead in an attempt to locate the suspect and forestall an ambush. Officer safety is preserved, and the suspect is captured in record time without the need for a helicopter.

Scenario 4 - Large Neighborhood Disturbance

Officers are called to the scene of a large number of people in an urban environment. The nature of the trouble is unknown but telephone calls from residents indicate that it might be a gang fight. Before driving into a completely unknown and potentially volatile situation, officers launch a ForceField over the crowd to examine the area for armed subjects and to look for subjects who may be waiting in ambush for the officers.

Scenario 5 - Civil Disobedience

A group is protesting. In the past these protests have turned violent. Officers are positioned in the area behind police skirmish lines with ForceField UAVs. Rioters behind the initial line are throwing rocks and bricks at the officers. ForceField is deployed over the heads of the officers and protestors to identify those people who are throwing objects at and assaulting the officers for the purpose of prosecuting them.

Scenario 6 - Perimeter Security

Police officers have formed a perimeter around a location for the purpose of providing security to protect the public, for keeping a suspect from escaping or any other reason. The incident commander launches a ForceField to check his perimeter. From the bird's eye view provided by the ForceField the incident commander can deploy people to fill gaps he notes to make the perimeter secure. With the ability to loiter if needed, the Forcefield UAV continually monitors the area.

Scenario 7 - Search and Rescue

Whether during the search for an overdue hiker or a missing child, the ForceField can be used to search areas for heat signatures or for visual clues to the location of a missing person in the roughest and most remote corners of the world. Far cheaper than a helicopter, with the ability to transmit information to the entire team.
